A new design approach
More than a hundred years after the movement began, Red Stone worked with Girlguiding on its biggest overhaul ever – including a redesign of its iconic badges and activities – to create a fresh and inspiring visual approach that is relevant to girls’ lives now.
As part of the project Red Stone designed the new badge and award books for Rainbows, Brownies, Guides and Rangers.
Badge and award books
We planned and designed the badge and award book for each section. The wirobound books outline what each girl needs to do to earn interest badges and theme awards.
We talked to members and non-members and began to develop a feel for how we could create a consistency in our approach but reflect the real differences that each age range expressed.
All illustrations were created in-house at Red Stone, and were tested at Girlguiding unit meetings, summer camps and jamborees across the UK.
A distinct approach for each section
Although the books are packed with information, content was designed to make it easy to navigate through and read. Extraneous content was pared away to give only the necessary information and no more.
Testimonial
“Red Stone have done an amazing job in helping us to update our programme products and badges, and their work supports our mission to create opportunities for every girl in a way that is exciting, inspiring and relevant for their lives.”
